From Computer Science to Embedded Systems – Krzysztof’s Internship Experience 

As part of the July 2026 internship program at EmbeddedSystems.do, three students had the opportunity to gain practical experience in electronics, embedded software, and product development. One of them was Krzysztof, a Computer Science student at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology (PJATK), specializing in the Internet of Things (IoT). 

His studies focus primarily on embedded systems and electronics, including programming microcontrollers such as ESP32 and STM32 in C/C++. Besides embedded development, he also enjoys creating simple web applications. Outside the world of technology, Krzysztof is a devoted FC Barcelona supporter who watches every match. In his free time, he enjoys going to the gym and playing padel. 

During his internship at EmbeddedSystems.do, Krzysztof worked on a real embedded systems project. We asked him about his studies, internship experience, and career plans. 

What are you studying? Why did you choose this field? 

I study Computer Science. I chose it because, in high school, I was in a math and physics-focused program. While looking for degree programs related to those subjects, I came across Computer Science and decided to pursue it. I’m happy with my choice. 

What interests you the most about this industry? What would you like to do in the future? 

I’m interested in electronics and embedded systems. I’m less interested in application development and more interested in physical devices – things you can actually touch and immediately see the results of. 

What was your first day at the company like? What were your first impressions? 

I settled in very quickly. From the very beginning, I was given plenty of tasks to focus on. Overall, my first-day experience was very positive. 

What tasks did you work on during your internship? Which projects were you involved in? 

Ewa was responsible for developing the firmware and designing the PCB, while my task was to receive signals from that board using a Raspberry Pi. I collected the data and performed various operations on it – for example, filtering it, displaying it at the appropriate time, and programming certain functions on the board. Overall, I would say my main responsibility was collecting and displaying data. 

Did the theoretical knowledge from university help you with the practical tasks during the internship? 

During the internship, I worked on things similar to what I had done at university, but from a completely different perspective. Piotr assigned me these tasks, and I thought, “No problem – I’m happy to learn something new.” I learned how to work with AWS and Raspberry Pi, so I’m glad I had the opportunity to expand my skills instead of simply repeating what I already knew. 

Did you learn anything new during your internship? 

As I mentioned, I learned how to work with AWS and Raspberry Pi. 

How would you describe the working atmosphere? Did you feel welcomed and part of the team? 

Yes, I felt very welcome and accepted by the team. 

Was there a particular moment that stood out to you? What was your favorite part of the internship? 

I really liked that we had lunch together as a team every day at 1 p.m. It was a nice opportunity to take a break.

Did the internship influence your future career plans? 

The internship confirmed that I want to build my career around embedded systems and electronics. I also really liked the company’s work culture, especially the six-hour workday. 

Would you recommend an internship at EmbeddedSystems.do to other students? 

I would recommend this internship to anyone, but I think it’s worth coming with some basic knowledge and interests that align with what the company does. 

Do you have any advice for future interns? 

Don’t be afraid!
