Eslog System Case Study

Eslog is a smart data logger that tracks temperature and humidity during product transportation and storage. Data is accessed using NFC technology via a mobile application available on iOS and Android, allowing users to retrieve detailed temperature and humidity logs quickly and effortlessly. By enabling accurate data collection and easy access to historical records, Eslog helps maintain product integrity, prevents spoilage or damage.

I. Context and Client Profile

While Tracely had a strong product vision and market understanding, the company lacked the in-house engineering resources needed to design and develop a production-ready hardware and software solution. They were looking for a technology partner who could transform their concept into a reliable, scalable product and support them through prototyping, testing, and industrialization.

Business Problem and Need

Traditional data loggers used in transportation are typically single-use devices resembling USB flash drives. After delivery, they must be manually connected to a computer to access stored data, which means there is no real-time visibility during transport and no way to react immediately when conditions exceed acceptable thresholds.

This leads to delayed problem detection, higher risk of product loss, manual reporting processes, and unnecessary electronic waste, as many devices are discarded after one use. Additionally, end customers have limited ability to independently verify whether products were transported under proper conditions, reducing transparency and trust across the supply chain.

Technological and Design Challenges

  • Designing a compact enclosure capable of housing all electronic components while maintaining durability, signal integrity, battery performance, and sensor accuracy.
  • Achieving long battery life while supporting continuous data logging and wireless communication.
  • Ensuring reliable connectivity and data transmission in varying logistics environments such as warehouses, trucks, and cold storage.
  • Maintaining high measurement accuracy and stability across wide temperature and humidity ranges.
  • Developing a reusable device resistant to mechanical stress, moisture, and repeated handling.
  • Balancing cost optimization with industrial-grade quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Integrating hardware, firmware, mobile app, and cloud platform into one seamless, scalable ecosystem.

III. Project Team

The Eslog Systems project was carried out by an interdisciplinary team of experts at EmbeddedSystems.do. Their experience and close collaboration enabled the timely delivery of a solution that met stringent technical requirements as well as HACCP and EU regulatory standards.

IV. Process and Methodology

The Eslog System project was executed using an Agile approach with short weekly sprints, enabling a high work pace and real-time responsiveness to the client’s needs. Regular status meetings with the client facilitated quick decision-making, transparent communication, and efficient risk management.

1. Discovery and Requirements Analysis

The project began with a detailed analysis of client goals, industry needs, and regulatory requirements. Technical specifications and product variants were defined to ensure compliance and feasibility.

2. Design and Architecture

Hardware, firmware, and system architecture were planned to integrate all components efficiently. The design supported multiple Eslog versions while maintaining accuracy, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

3. Prototyping

Eight iterations of the Eslog device were developed and tested. The final mini version was successfully produced in a batch of 1,500 units, incorporating lessons learned from previous prototypes.

V. R&D

Eslog IR

One of our R&D solutions is ESLOG IR, a miniature infrared camera that transforms smartphone into a powerful, touchless thermal scanner. Thanks to its compact, pocket-sized design, ESLOG IR allows temperature measurements anytime and anywhere.

The device attaches directly to a phone case, and through the accompanying app, users can view detailed temperature maps, making it a convenient and versatile solution for fast, accurate thermal monitoring.

Eslog Solar-Powered

ESLOG Solar-Powered, a device designed to operate efficiently using solar energy. By harnessing sunlight, this solution can function autonomously for extended periods, reducing the need for frequent battery replacements or external charging. Its sustainable, energy-efficient design makes it ideal for monitoring conditions in outdoor or remote environments, ensuring reliable performance while minimizing environmental impact.

Eslog Body Sense

Another R&D solution we designed is eslog Body Sense. It is a wearable, non-invasive medical monitoring system designed to continuously track a patient’s body temperature and related physiological signals without requiring manual measurements. It replaces traditional spot-check methods with real-time data collection, making patient monitoring more accurate, efficient, and comfortable.
